Golden Days at Districts!
Gloucester City Swimming Club is celebrating its most successful District Age Group Championships in recent years. The 16 strong team of swimmers aged between 10-14 years competed at Millfield School in Somerset against elite swimmers and premier squads from across the South West District.
Each of our swimmers are worthy of credit for meeting tough qualifying times in order to compete at these championships. Well done to Jake Michaels (14), Jack Mason (14), Sally Fitzpatrick (13), Holly Whitton (13), Alice Price (13), Ely Seymour (13), Nina Forbes (13) Jordan Lee (13), Craig Munden (13), Oli Fell (12), Jack Bartman (12), Chris Malone (10), Joe Fountain (10), Alex Seymour (10) and Matthew Munden (10).
Highlights of the championships for Gloucester City include 8 Golds, 4 Silvers, 3 Bronze medals, two National Qualification times (NQTs) and strong performances by the boys and girls relay teams. All of our swimmers competed well with most achieving personal best (PB) times in a long course pool (50m) and many making it through the heats in the top 8 to qualify for the finals. Gloucester City finished 6th overall in the medal table. This represents a huge achievement for a relatively small club in a particularly tough regional district.
Alex Seymour (10) enjoyed a fantastic championship securing a staggering 7 gold medals in the 100m, 200m & 400m Freestyle, 100m & 200m Fly, 100m & 200m Back and a silver in the 200IM. He was outstanding in all his events winning most of his heats to qualify for each final. In the 200m Fly he excelled by achieving an 11 year old NQT a year early in a very fast time of 2:46.08. Alex also secured 1st place in the overall BAGCAT Points for 10 year old boys. Congratulations Alex on an exceptional championship!
Alice Price (13) put in an outstanding performance and secured a hard earned NQT and gold medal in the 200IM (Medley) in a time of 2:30.98. She went on to secure a second NQT and silver in the 100 Back in a fantastic time of 1:09.75. Congratulations Alice!
Jake Michaels (14) won silver in the 1500m Free in a time of 17:49.17. This event is not for the faint hearted, and it was Jake’s first attempt at this distance in a long course pool (30 lengths of a 50m pool). Well done Jake! Matthew Munden (10) swam exceptionally well to secure Bronze in the 100m & 200m Back swimming a life time best in both events. Joe Fountain (10) won bronze in the 200m Fly in a time of 3:05.06 knocking off 5 seconds from his heat time and also securing a huge PB. The 14 year old girls medley relay team of Alice Price (Back), Sally Fitzpatrick (Breast), Holly Whitton (Fly) and Nina Forbes (Free) put in a strong performance to finish in 5th place overall. Not to be outdone the boys Free and Medley team of Jake Michaels (14), Jack Mason (14), Dan Hudson (14) and Craig Munden (13) fought hard against tough competition to finish 5th overall in both relays. Both the girls and boys team swam faster than their entry times and improved on their ranking. Overall a fantastic set of results for Gloucester City and a delighted coaching team! |
