On Sunday 16 May Alex Seymour, Joe Fountain, Chris Malone and Matthew Munden represented Gloucester City in the South West District Relay Championships at Millfield school in Somerset . Twenty swimming clubs from across the South West took part in the Championships.
For our 10 year old boys it was their first chance to compete at Millfield. The top 8 teams from each heat would qualify for the final. The boys put in a great performance in both their heats to be the fastest qualifiers for both the 4 x 50m freestyle and 4 x 50m medley relay finals.
In both finals they were up against strong teams from Poole SC and Plymouth Leander. However, the boys rose to the occasion, remained focused and clinched their first gold in the 4 x 50m freestyle final in an excellent time of 2:16.72, some 3 seconds quicker than 2nd place Poole SC.
In the second final, 4 x 50m medley relay, the boys looked even stronger. With Matthew starting on back, Chris on breast, Joe on Fly and Alex on free they easily won the gold in a fantastic time of 2:36.58 some 7 seconds ahead of 2nd place Poole SC and 10 seconds ahead of 3rd place Plymouth Leander.
The boys were deservedly proud to receive their medals on top of the podium.
Well done lads, a great result for Gloucester City Swimming Club.
