The 4x100m Free Relay sees even more sucess for GCSC!
Kirsty Hepburn (15), Georgia Fuller (14), Sophie Brown (14) and Rebecca Johnstone (16 ) have set a new County record in the 4 x 100m freestyle Open relay on the final day of the County Championships. Their goal was to go under 4:00.00 to beat the old record of 4:00.33 set by GCSC in 2005. The atmosphere was electric with the coaching team and many GCSC swimmers lining the side of the pool cheering them on. The noise from the crowd was deafening. All four girls put in a superb performance to smash the record in a fantastic time of 3:57.58! This is a first, for a women’s team to go under 4 minutes, in the history of swimming in Gloucestershire.
The girls were handed the Judkin Taylor Cup at the presentation ceremony which followed. Seeing the girls proudly lift the cup into the air was a moment to savour.
Special thanks also go to the GCSC relay team of Tori Nunn (14), Aimee Carter (15), Holly Whitton (13) and Imogen Wells (15) who selflessly competed in the preliminary heat to safely secure a place in lane 4 for their team mates in the final.
Well done girls, congratulations from the whole club on a fantastic achievement.
GCSC Coach Andy Osborne added: “All the Senior relay teams last weekend were outstanding. The Mens Open 4 X 100 Freestyle teams splits were all under 54 seconds and the Women’s Open Medley team smashed the County record by 10 seconds.
However, there was a benchmark figure for the Womens 4 x 100 free team of "sub 4". None of the swimmers in the team has a ranking time under 1 minute so it was a tall order. However, as coaches we knew they were swimming well, and the target was realistic. In the end, they smashed the time, and that was largely down to them swimming for each other. Total team spirit and unity. A huge achievement for a club team, and one all of Gloucester City should be proud of”.
